A leporello is an harmonica shaped book. This one has twelve pages: one title page and eleven short poems of each eleven words. This special Dutch form of poetry is called an ‘Elfje’ (Dutch word meaning: small elf) and has the double meaning in the word ‘Elf’: ‘eleven’ hence the eleven words it contains.
By the way: This leporello is not a translation of the Dutch version but has eleven completely different short poems (Elfs).
The writer knows that, translated in English, the plural form of Elf is Elves, but consciously spelled the English word different: Elfs. She didn’t want the letter ‘v’ in the word (visually distracting from the subject of an Elf towards other associations such as Elvis). She also liked to refer to the language spoken by elves (Elfs) creating a new meaning expressing the communication style of the Elfs: Restricted to the bare essential the images and messages those words convey become crystal clear.
She put the words on the Scrabble board to scramble them and inspire the reader to play with them creating different meanings through new orders the words are put into.
An original gift for a person who loves to read, write, puzzle, play with words or Scrabble!
A limited edition of 50 pieces.
